J’anne the Golden Retreiver

Meet J’anne!

The good folks @cabarrusanimalhospital reached out to me about her. She has renal failure. We are so glad to help and to say yes. Her owner is a senior citizen and widowed. We have a soft spot for that.

Thank you for allowing us to continue to say yes. We wish her a good recovery!

Bark & Brew 2019 Red Carpet Runway Show

August 11, 2019 1:00 p.m.
Cabarrus Brewing Company
329 McGill Avenue NW, Concord NC 28027

You are invited to become a part of The Splashpaw Foundation’s fifth annual red carpet event. This event has grown exponentially each year, with last year filling Cabarrus Brewing Company to the brim. We are excited to host the Bark and Brew Red Carpet Runway Show again at Cabarrus Brewing Company on Sunday August 11, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.!

Pets are near and dear to so many. They are the friends who love us every day without waiver, and have stood by our sides through it all. We include them as part of the family because they are! The Splashpaw Foundation, Inc.™ was founded to assist and improve the research, treatment, and care of children and pets in our community, most specifically those dealing with cancer.

Established in 2013, The Splashpaw Foundation has helped over 150 pets within Cabarrus and Rowan Counties so far. Each case benefitted by SplashPaw is veterinarian referred, to ensure your donation is spent wisely and helps a good candidate with a good prognosis. Without The Splashpaw Foundation, these pets would have an uncertain future due to the families’ inability to afford the unexpected vet bills. Thanks to generous donations and fundraising events throughout the year, we are able to save the lives of these important family members when ends just won’t meet.

The main feature of Bark and Brew is the runway show featuring Owners and their Dogs who were adopted from local rescues and animal control, as well as dogs that are still here today because of Splashpaw. Each pet owner will be styled by one of the local boutiques participating in the event. After the runway show, guests are invited to participate in both the live and silent auctions and shop the outfits modeled down the runway of Cabarrus Brewing Company.

Boutiques and businesses helping style our human models include 3 Jem’s Boutique of Concord and Salisbury, Viva Boutique of Concord, Lovely Lines Boutique of Kannapolis, Simply Pleasant, Mr. Tuxedo, and Concord’s Best Dressed Kids.

Bark and Brew is a ticketed event, open to all ages. Each $15 ticket includes one beverage voucher redeemable for (1) pint of beer, (1) glass of wine, or (1) soft drink. Tickets can be purchased in person at Cabarrus Animal Hospital, Lovely Lines Boutique, Irresistible Portraits, The Splashpaw Office, or online at splashpaw.yapsody.com.

I Said I Was Going To Take A Break: The Beginning

I Said I Was Going To Take A Break: The Beginning

I had told Dr Julian that I wasn’t going to get another pet for a long time; that I needed a break after both Pisa and Roma died of cancer. Roma, my dog, was about 16 when we had to make that awful decision to let her go. Roma went everywhere and had been going to work with me since 1996. After Roma died it just wasn’t the same. It was lonely without her. It was also difficult timing with family members fighting cancer as well. So, needless to say we all spent a great deal of time with Doctors both veterinary and human. I still swore I was going to take a break and not get another dog for a long time. I missed Roma terribly. Grief is real, whether it be for a human or a pet!

Apparently, a long time and taking a break is two weeks and one day just in case you were wondering! I started looking around for a shelter dog and came across the puppy rescue in Harrisburg. I kept looking at this one puppy’s face. She had such sweet eyes. I went to visit her on a Saturday morning with my money in hand but I wasn’t sure I was going to take her home and my friend, Cindy, talked me into it. But I did – it did take me a while to warm up to her because I missed Roma so much. They are night and day!

I had wanted to keep with the Italian name thing and nothing seemed to fit. Then I looked up Italian girl names and Mia meant “my girl” or “mine” in Italian although Mom wanted me to name her Bambino. I stuck with Mia and oh is she ever mine. She is the sweetest but wildest dog I have ever had!
