Both my Grandfather and Mother had cancer as well as three of my pets. Pepper was a schnauzer, Roma was a 16 year old spaniel mix and Pisa was an 11 year old Calico. My Mother and Mary Katherine’s aunt, Joyce Moore, dearly loved children, all of her students, and her dogs. During her last 2 years of battling this disease a pregnant dog adopted my parents and presented them with 9 puppies. At first Mom was not happy about this at all, but grew to love and pamper them. We are convinced that those puppies and we can’t forget her pit baby Diamond helped extend her life.
I was lucky to be able to provide excellent care to help Roma be comfortable. (More about Roma’s care and story on a future blog post.) We hope to provide others with financial assistance thru Veterinary referrals to folks that can’t necessarily afford adequate treatment or care. This can mean helping with veterinarian costs for treatment, medication, or research or helping a child be more comfortable while they battle a terrible disease. All of the donations stay local in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties.
Mary Katherine and I are dedicating The Splashpaw Foundation, Inc. in memory of the lost lives of all of our family members which includes our pets!
